How to Turn your Blog Posts into an Ebook

As a small business owner and online entrepreneur, you’re always looking for new ways to engage our online audience, build our credibility, grow our email lists, and make passive income.

Turning your blog posts into an Ebook is an excellent way to accomplish all of these goals!

With 80% of the population consuming online content on their mobile devices, offering an ebook as an option for consuming your content gives your audience the opportunity to consume your content when it fits into their schedule.

As a generic term, an electronic book (variously: e-book, eBook, e-Book, ebook, digital book or e-edition) or a digital book is a book-publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on computers or other electronic devices. Although sometimes defined as “an electronic version of a printed book”, many e-books exist without any printed equivalent. [Wikipedia]

Creating fresh, relevant blog posts for your blog and/or website is an excellent way to drive traffic to your site organically. Every blog post you create and publish is another web page that Google can find and send web surfers to, when they’re searching for topics related to your blog post.

Now, there are many reasons why web visitors may prefer to read your blog post(s) in ebook format::

  • They may not have the time to read the entire blog post when they land on it, and may prefer the option of downloading the blog post as an ebook so that they can read it at a more convenient time.
  • The blog post may contain information that the website visitor wants to revisit
  • There may be too much content within the blog post for the web visitor to consume in one sitting.

Giving your blog visitors the OPTION of downloading the ebook, instead of consuming the content when it’s not convenient for them, can help you grow your email list, build your credibility, encourage repeat visits to your blog and/or website, and ultimately enable you to reach a wider audience.

Capturing your web visitors, while they are on your site, can help you grow your email list.

You could offer the ebook on the blog post, using an opt-in to capture your web visitor’s information. ‘GET YOUR FREE DOWNLOAD…’. There are number of tools that you can use for this including LeadPages and Convertkit, both which allow you to create pop-up or on-page opt-in’s. Encourage your web visitors to opt-in to download the free ebook.

BENEFITS TO YOU: You don’t have to recreate the content for the lead magnet (as you’ve already written the blog post) AND you’ve now turned that blog post into an email list growth tool.

BENEFITS TO THEM: They can download the ebook and read it when it’s convenient for them. They’re more likely to share with those in their network, particularly if you add in a social sharing option in the ebook!

I wouldn’t recommend turning just one blog post into a paid ebook, unless you’ve created an epic blog post BUT you could take 3 – 5 blog posts, on a similar topic, and join them together to create a paid ebook!

You may think that your online audience (who can read your blog posts for free) won’t pay for an ebook version, but that’s simply not true. People pay for the CONVENIENCE of having all of the information that they’re looking for in one place. Instead of having to scour your blog for topics that interest them, you can give them everything they’re looking for (about a particular topic) in one awesome ebook!

Offer the option to purchase the ebook on all blog posts using widgets, Hello bars, and hyperlinks to LeadPages.

BENEFITS TO YOU: You don’t have to recreate the content for the ebook AND you’ve now turned that blog post into passive income! You’ve grown your email list by one more subscriber, and if they enjoy the read, they’re more likely to make another purchase from you in the future.

BENEFITS TO THEM: They can download all the information they’re looking for, and digest it at their convenience.

While you can turn your blog posts into an ebook manually, it can be frustrating and time consuming – particularly if you’re creating one ebook from multiple blog posts.

You’ll end up having to clean up images and reformatting the blog posts to create the ebook manually, in order to produce a professional quality ebook.

I purchased a software program in the Spring of 2016 called Designrr, created by Paul Clifford (founder of PageOneTraffic), to turn blog posts into ebooks. I can do this for our blog posts, and our clients blog posts, and using any blog platform.

Designrr is a fairly straightforward tool to create professional quality ebooks. You simply enter the URL of the blog post(s) you want to include in the ebook, and Designrr loads the content ignoring the site navigation, advertisements, and sharing icons.

Next I choose an ebook template, and edit / change the images, fonts, cover, and headers. Then I add a call to action, and publish as an ebook..

It’s really as simple as that!

There are other free and premium options for creating ebooks out of your blog posts:

  • Anthologize (WordPress plugin) – Create multiple ebook projects on your site and then publish them in a range of formats.
  • Zinepal (SaaS) – Creates PDFs and eBooks in the ePub, Kindle and Mobipocket formats
  • Pressbooks (SaaS) – Easy-to-use book writing software that lets you create a book in all the formats you need to publish.

Converting your blog posts into an ebook is one of the easiest ways to create a lead magnet (to grow your email list), boost your credibility, engage your online audience, and create passive income (by selling your ebook).
